Gatsric sleeve operation or sleeve gastrectomy

Gastric sleeve operation or sleeve gastrectomy involves removing a large portion of the stomach, reducing its capacity and the amount of food that can be consumed. This surgery is generally performed laparoscopically, which means that surgical instruments are inserted into the abdominal cavity through small incisions of a few centimeters.

During the operation, approximately 60% of the stomach volume is removed, leaving behind a sleeve or tube-shaped portion of the stomach with a capacity of only 200ml. With this approach, the intestines and the process of digestion remain unchanged, and the movement of food through the digestive tract remains the same. Weight loss in this approach is largely achieved through reduced food intake.

For any weight loss surgery to result in a significant weight loss, it is important for the patient to make noticeable lifestyle changes to promote weight loss and avoid regaining weight. Additionally, patients need to increase their level of physical activity.

After gastric longitudinal resection surgery, patients initially start with consuming liquid foods, and under the guidance of nutrition therapists, their diet is gradually modified over the following weeks, transitioning to pureed foods and eventually solid foods after a certain period of time.

Regular medical check-ups are also necessary after the surgery.

The different options and specifics of weight loss surgical interventions will be explained to you by the Confido bariatric surgeon, who will determine the most suitable approach for you.
