A nephrologist or kidney doctor deals with the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases. A kidney doctor is usually consulted with chronic kidney damage, in which case a person needs kidney replacement therapy. There are three types of kidney replacement therapy: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation.
