Vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis
Look for appointment timesTicks in Estonia spread two dangerous diseases: tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme disease. While Lyme disease can be successfully treated with antibiotics, there is no cure for encephalitis – it is a very serious disease. Tick-borne encephalitis can be severe and affect the central nervous system, which in turn may cause lasting residual symptoms.
It is recommended to start the course of injections against tick-borne encephalitis in April so that immunity can develop for the period in which the ticks are active.
Vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis is available for adults and children from the age of one at any time of the year.
The initial vaccination schedule consists of three injections over the course of 12 months. For people under 60 years of age, the first reinjection needs to be done three years after the third injection. Subsequent reinjections need to be done every five years.
If you have been bitten by a tick and the vaccination schedule is in progress, it is recommended to continue with the vaccination.
All vaccinations done at Confido are recorded in your vaccination passport, which we ask you to take with you when you come to get vaccinated. If necessary, we will issue a new vaccination passport for an additional fee (€10).
