Colposcopy
Look for appointment timesA colposcopy is an examination that uses gynaecological instruments and a microscope to look at possible pathological changes in the vagina and cervix. The examination is performed by a gynaecologist and is very similar to a regular gynaecological examination and is usually not painful. A colposcopy takes around 15-20 minutes. You can eat and drink normally before the examination. It is not recommended to have sexual intercourse the day prior to the examination. A colposcopy cannot be performed during menstruation and in the event of bleeding from the genitals.
The best time to do the examination is from the 10th to the 14th day of the menstrual cycle. When coming for the procedure, please be sure to bring the results of your previous tests with you. The bladder must be empty during the examination. If necessary, tissue samples are taken from the vaginal and cervical mucosa during a colposcopy. Results of these tests usually arrive within one to two weeks. After the examination, there may be a small amount of bloody discharge for up to a week. During this time, sex, bathing and swimming should be avoided to reduce the risk of inflammation. A colposcopy is a very well tolerated procedure and serious complications are very rare.
Attention! The need for the examination is decided by the gynecologist, who, if necessary, books the time for the examination. The price of the service does not include the price of an appointment with a gynecologist.
