Appointments

A urogynecological midwife appointment is intended for women of all ages who experience pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence, or symptoms related to pelvic organ prolapse. Many of these conditions may develop after childbirth, as a result of ageing, hormonal changes, or other health-related factors. However, they are not an inevitable part of being a woman, and in many cases they can be effectively relieved or treated.

Women are welcome to book an appointment:

• if they experience urine leakage when coughing, sneezing, or during physical activity after childbirth;
• if they experience urine leakage in everyday life when coughing, sneezing, jumping, or moving;
• if they have frequent or constant urination, urinary urgency, or difficulty emptying the bladder;
• if urination has become more frequent or is painful;
• if urinary or pelvic floor problems affect their sexual life;
• if there is a suspicion of pelvic floor muscle weakness or dysfunction;
• if they have uterine or vaginal prolapse or an associated feeling of pressure or heaviness.

During the appointment, the midwife will thoroughly assess your symptoms and overall health and, if necessary, perform a physical examination and initial assessments. Together, you will determine the most appropriate treatment plan, which may include pelvic floor muscle training, bladder training, lifestyle and behavioural recommendations, and, if necessary, counselling on conservative treatment options. If your condition requires further investigations or assessment by a specialist, the midwife will refer you to an appropriate specialist.
