Surgery for cysto-vaginal fistula
Look for appointment timesSurgery for cysto-vaginal fistula, or an abnormal connection between the bladder and vagina, can be performed via the vaginal approach. The procedure involves making an incision in the vaginal wall close to the fistula, and then dissecting the surrounding tissue to expose the fistula. The fistula is then closed using sutures, and the surrounding tissue is re-approximated to promote healing.
The procedure may be performed under general or regional anesthesia, and the patient may need to stay in the hospital for a few days after surgery to monitor for any complications. Recovery time varies depending on the size and location of the fistula, as well as the overall health of the patient. In some cases, a temporary catheter may need to be placed to allow the bladder to heal properly.
The goal of surgery for cysto-vaginal fistula is to repair the connection between the bladder and vagina, and restore normal urinary function. It is important to seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms such as urine leakage or pain during urination, as these may be signs of a cysto-vaginal fistula.
