Gastroenterology is constantly developing and covers every aspect of the gastro-intestinal tract. Much of a gastroenterologist's work focuses on autoimmune diseases. Good collaboration in surgical oncology and rheumatology is also important. Gastrointestinal symptoms can be the first indicator of a number of diseases. Variety is the reason I chose this speciality. For the last six years, I have been working in Finland where serious gastroenterological diseases are more common than in Estonia. I have now returned to Estonia part-time. I believe that every person should have a colonoscopy at least once in their life, at the latest by the age of 60, to prevent colon cancer!
