Patients with a diagnosed cancer or suspicion of it can make an appointment with an oncologist. The focus of the appointment is on the patient’s treatment and monitoring. During the appointment, the patient may need to undergo several tests, such as blood and imaging tests (such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI, and ultrasound). These tests help the doctor evaluate the spread of cancer and decide on appropriate treatment.

During the appointment, the doctor conducts a full physical examination to assess the patient’s health and asks in detail about the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and treatment history. The doctor then provides recommendations for further treatment and monitoring, including treatment options, likely outcomes, and possible side effects. An oncologist may also develop a treatment plan.
