Hemorrhoidectomy (removal of hemorrhoids)
Look for appointment timesClassical hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure in which tissues with pathological changes (hemorrhoids) are removed. The procedure is performed by specialized surgeons and proctologists.
Indications for surgery
- 3-4th stage hemorrhoids
- Ineffective treatment of hemorrhoids with minimally invasive methods
- Recurrence of the problem after treatment with minimally invasive methods
- Hemorrhoid prolapse every time after bowel movements, self-repositioning is impossible
- Use of minimally invasive methods is impossible
- Large nodules
About the surgery
In hemorrhoidectomy, part of the rectum or hemorrhoids are cut off. The rectal mucosa is sewn. General anesthesia or spinal anesthesia is used during the procedure. The average duration of the operation is about 60 minutes.
Preparing for hemorrhoidectomy
First, you need to come to Confido Proctologist’s appointment, where complaints are heard, and tests and analyses are performed. Before the surgery, a enema (one on the previous evening and another on the day of the procedure) should be done for bowel cleansing, or laxatives should be used the day before. It is recommended to switch to a special diet (low-fat broth, boiled fish, boiled meat, cheese). Dinner on the eve of the procedure should be as light as possible. Avoid eating gas-producing foods (beans, cabbage, bread) 48 hours before the procedure. On the day of the procedure, do not smoke, drink, or eat. Inform your doctor of any medications you are taking. You will receive detailed instructions from the doctor during a personal consultation.
After the surgery
Recovery after classical hemorrhoidectomy takes an average of 2-3 weeks. In certain individual cases, recovery may take up to one and a half months. During the recovery period, the patient must follow recommendations, including diet, hygiene regime, medication, and restriction of physical activity.
