Urology Nurse Appointment
Look for appointment timesBoth men and women can visit a urology nurse for initial urological concerns, preventive health checks or follow-up care for previous urological conditions. No prior referral from a urologist is required.
During the appointment, the nurse assesses the patient’s health, identifies any concerns and orders laboratory tests and examinations if necessary. If a consultation with a urologist is required, the patient is referred to a specialist. The initial assessment and test results allow the urologist to initiate appropriate treatment more quickly.
The urology nurse appointment includes:
- Taking a medical history and identifying symptoms and concerns;
- Assessing the patient’s health and potential health risks;
- Ordering necessary laboratory tests and examinations (sample collection is subject to an additional fee);
- Explaining test results and providing counselling;
- Assessing surgical wounds and providing wound care advice.
If necessary, the urology nurse also performs various specialised procedures for an additional fee:
- Replacement and care of a suprapubic catheter (epicystostomy), including advice on home care;
- Postoperative wound care and removal of sutures;
- Insertion and removal of indwelling urinary catheters in both men and women, including counselling;
- Collection of urethral swabs for culture in both men and women;
- Bladder instillation therapy (Gepan treatment);
- Measurement of urinary flow rate (uroflowmetry);
- Postoperative follow-up and counselling for prostate cancer patients according to a follow-up plan established by a urologist.
If necessary, the nurse will refer the patient to a urologist for further consultation.
NB! A referral is required to book an appointment funded by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (Tervisekassa). You can book an appointment by calling 1330 or through the national digital registration system.
We accept patients aged 15 and older.
