Gastric sleeve operation or sleeve gastrectomy
Look for appointment timesThe journey begins with a consultation with a surgeon, who will help the patient determine the most suitable surgical plan. The decision is individualized and primarily depends on the patient’s weight, anatomy, comorbidities, and previous surgeries.
Surgery
- Required Body Mass Index (BMI): from 30 kg/m²
- Expected weight loss: 60-70% of excess weight
During the procedure, approximately 70-85% of the stomach is permanently removed, leaving behind a sleeve- or tube-shaped section with a volume of 100-200 ml (compared to the normal stomach capacity of 1000-1500 ml). The sleeve gastrectomy does not alter the intestines or the digestion process, the passage of food through the digestive tract remains unchanged. Weight loss primarily results from reduced food intake. In addition, the resection of the stomach does not affect the absorption of nutrients (including vitamins and minerals) or medications in the digestive system.
The surgery is performed laparoscopically (also known as keyhole surgery). This means smaller incisions, minimal tissue trauma, and relatively fast and smooth recovery after surgery.
Advantages:
- Average weight loss of approximately 60% of excess weight within 5 years after surgery.
- Suitable for patients who are not candidates for other bariatric procedures.
- Does not affect the natural digestive process.
- Can be converted to a gastric bypass in the future if necessary.
Disadvantages:
- Less weight loss compared to gastric bypass surgery.
- Restoration of original anatomy is not possible in the future.
- Increased likelihood of acid reflux.
- Smaller impact on long-term eating behavior.
The surgical package includes the following services:
- Surgeon’s consultation
- Diagnostic procedures and analyses
- Preoperative consultation with a bariatric nurse
- Surgery
- Inpatient care in a private room for 2 nights
- Postoperative consultation with the surgeon
- Follow-up visits with a bariatric nurse at 2, 6, and 12 months after surgery
- Comprehensive information materials and dietary guidelines.
Additional services based on current price list:
- Bariatric nurse visit (outside package)
- Personal training
- Psychologist consultation
- Nutrition therapy counseling.
To ensure long-term success of bariatric surgeries, it is essential to significantly change lifestyle habits, improve nutrition, and increase physical activity in daily routines. This is the only way to prevent weight regain.
