A midwife instructs, monitors, cares for and advises women and their families during pregnancy and childbirth, during the postpartum period and in resolving gynaecological issues. In addition, a midwife monitors and provides care for newborns and infants.
Midwifery care is provided in the following areas:
- reproductive health, sex education, family planning and contraception
- pregnancy monitoring, antenatal counselling and parenting education
- preparation for childbirth, assistance during labour
- postpartum period (maternal and neonatal health, adjustment, breastfeeding counselling)
