Long bone osteotomy with osteosynthesis / osteoplastic osteosynthesis
Surgery
Long bone osteotomy with osteosynthesis is a surgical procedure in which the alignment or axis of the tibia is corrected through a controlled bone cut. After correction, the bone is stabilized using osteosynthesis with metal fixation devices to ensure proper healing in the corrected position. In the case of osteoplastic osteosynthesis, a bone graft or bone substitute material may additionally be used to restore bone shape and strength when necessary.
Main causes
The procedure is performed to improve load distribution and biomechanics of the lower limb, reduce pain, and prevent further joint degeneration. It is commonly used as a joint-preserving treatment to maintain mobility and delay or avoid joint replacement surgery.
Typical symptoms
• malalignment or axis deformities of the lower limb,
• unilateral overload or early degeneration of the knee joint,
• post-traumatic bony deformities.
Recovery
• Recovery time depends on the extent of the surgery and individual healing capacity.
• Temporary limitation of weight bearing on the operated leg may be required.
• Physiotherapy is an essential part of recovery and helps restore mobility and muscle strength.
• Complete bone healing occurs gradually over several months.
Before surgery, you need to have a consultation with a specialist, who will create your treatment plan.
