Consultation with the paediatrician
Look for appointment timesA paediatrician deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in children of all ages and adolescents up to 18 years old. Where necessary, a paediatrician will refer children for any necessary further analyses and tests or to see another specialist.
Depending on the health concern, it is possible to turn to the following specialists:
- Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist
- Pediatric Resident
A pediatric infectious disease specialist focuses on the consultation, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of infectious diseases in children. You may seek help from this specialist if your child has an acute intestinal infection (e.g., salmonellosis, campylobacteriosis, shigellosis, yersiniosis, rotavirus enteritis), an acute respiratory viral infection (e.g., parainfluenza virus, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus, coronavirus), a rash-associated infectious disease (e.g., monkeypox, enterovirus, chickenpox, scabies), a neuroinfection (e.g., tick-borne encephalitis, Lyme disease), a urinary tract infection or viral hepatitis (Hepatitis A, B, or C)
A pediatric resident is involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases in children and adolescents of all ages. Among other responsibilities, a pediatric resident also deals with the diagnosis and treatment of acute infectious diseases. If necessary, they may refer the child for additional tests, examinations, and consultations with other specialists. You may also seek help from a pediatric resident if your child has a persistent health issue that affects their quality of life and causes concern for the parent.
