Vasectomy
Look for appointment timesVasectomy is a procedure in which the man’s vas deferens are closed, making it no longer possible to have children naturally. Other physiological functions are not affected by this procedure.
The operation can be performed under local or general anesthesia. After sterilization, sperm cells gradually disappear from the semen. The disappearance of sperm cells from the semen is confirmed by a spermogram, which should be performed two to three months after sterilization. If sperm cells still remain in the ejaculate, the spermogram should be repeated two months later, and if necessary, repeated until the sperm cells have disappeared.
Possible complications of the procedure include bleeding (hematoma) after the procedure.
To prevent hematoma, the patient can wear a suspensory (tighter underwear) after the operation and apply cold to the testicles as a first aid measure.
The risk of complications is greater in cases of diabetes, autoimmune disease, or eczema of the lower extremities.
The risk of infection is higher if there were previously undiagnosed infections of the genital tract. To prevent possible infection, the patient can receive antibiotic treatment after the operation.
