Pediatric surgeon consultation
A pediatric surgeon is a doctor who specialises in the treatment of surgical diseases in children from infancy to adolescence (at Confido, pediatric surgeons see children from 3 months to 14 years), taking into account the anatomical and physiological characteristics of a child’s body.
The primary role of a pediatric surgeon is to diagnose and treat various pediatric surgical conditions that may require surgical intervention.
You can see a pediatric surgeon for the following health concerns:
- Surgical treatment of pediatric skin tumours referred by a dermatologist
- Surgical treatment of skin tumours and skin formations in children for cosmetic reasons: e.g. lipomas, cysts, haemangiomas, nevi
- Urological problems in children: e.g. tight foreskin, undescended testicles
- Surgical treatment of inguinal hernias in children
- Examinations and treatment for nighttime bedwetting
- Surgical treatment of gallstones in children.
At the pediatric surgeon’s appointment, the doctor gets to know the child and their parents and discusses the child’s issues with all family members involved. The doctor will then offer solutions to the problem, focusing on the child’s needs and wishes. The doctor gives a detailed overview of any necessary procedures or tests and explains why they are needed. Additionally, they answer any questions the child or parents may have, ensuring that the whole family understands the treatment journey and that the child feels as little fear or uncertainty as possible about the next treatment steps. Our goal is to ensure that each child receives the best possible treatment and support so that they can return to their regular life quickly and be healthy.
Preparation or contraindications for the service
- Collecting health information: Gather all the necessary documents that can help the doctor better assess your child’s health. This includes the results of previous examinations that are not in the Health Portal (blood tests, X-rays, ultrasound scans, etc.) and treatment history.
- Nutrition and medications: If it is known that certain procedures may be performed during the consultation, ask in advance if any changes to your child’s diet or medication regimen are necessary. Some procedures recommend arriving on an empty stomach.
- Allergies and drug sensitivities: If your child has known allergies to medications or anaesthetics, it is important to inform the doctor.
- Preparation of questions: Think about any questions you may have concerning your child’s health to make the discussion more effective and ensure that all concerns are addressed.
- Preparing the child: Depending on your child’s age, it may be necessary to explain what they can expect during the appointment to ease any fear or anxiety.
If your child has a fever or an infectious disease (e.g. a viral illness), it may be necessary to postpone the appointment to avoid spreading the illness to others and to give the child a chance to recover.
