Endovenous laser coagulation (laser ablation)
Look for appointment timesEndovenous laser coagulation is a modern, evidence-based treatment method for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency. The aim of the procedure is to close the damaged vein from the inside using laser energy, thereby restoring normal blood flow in healthy veins and relieving symptoms caused by the disease.
The method is used in cases of insufficiency of the superficial venous system of the leg.
The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance using local anesthesia. The physician inserts a thin laser catheter into the affected vein, through which precisely controlled laser energy is delivered into the vein. The laser causes heating and closure of the vein wall, resulting in the cessation of blood flow in the diseased vein. Over time, the closed vein shrinks and is naturally absorbed by the body.
Compared to traditional surgical treatment, endovenous laser coagulation is significantly less burdensome for the patient. The procedure does not require general anesthesia or hospitalization, and most patients can return to their normal daily activities on the same or the following day. Advantages of the method include small skin incisions, minimal scarring, less postoperative pain, and a lower risk of complications.
If necessary, laser coagulation may be combined with other treatment methods, such as miniphlebectomy or sclerotherapy, in order to achieve the best functional and aesthetic result.
