Breast implant removal
Look for appointment timesBreast implant removal surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at removing implants that have been placed in the breasts.
The desire or need for breast implant removal can arise for several reasons. For example, in some cases, breast implants can cause medical problems such as implant leakage, deformities, infections, or capsular contracture (the tissue around the implant becomes tight and firm). In such cases, it may be necessary to remove the implants to address these health issues.
Some women may wish to have their breast implants removed because their preferences have changed over time or they want to return to their natural appearance. This may involve reducing the size of the implants, correcting asymmetry, or complete removal. During the surgery, incisions are made in the breast area to gain access to the implants. The implants are removed along with their surrounding tissue and capsule if one has formed. If the implants are made of silicone, it may be necessary to remove any tissues affected by silicone leakage or migration. Following implant removal, reconstructive surgery may be necessary if the patient desires it.
Breast implant removal surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The recovery period varies, but patients typically recover within a few weeks and can return to normal activities. Prior to breast implant removal surgery, it is important to consult with our experienced mammologist who can evaluate the specific situation, discuss the patient’s goals and recommendations, and plan an appropriate treatment method based on individual needs.
