Gastric Bypass Surgery
Look for appointment timesThe journey begins with a consultation with a surgeon, who will help the patient determine the most suitable surgical plan. The decision is individualized and primarily depends on the patient’s weight, anatomy, comorbidities, and previous surgeries.
Surgery
• Required Body Mass Index (BMI) from 30kg/m2
• Expected weight loss: 70-80% of excess weight
Gastric bypass is the most popular bariatric surgery in the world and has the most long-term research data available. During the procedure, a small portion of the stomach is separated from the rest and a new small pouch (20-30 ml) is rerouted to bypass parts of the digestive tract and connected to the upper small intestine. Food moves directly to the small intestine, bypassing the larger stomach and duodenum. This reduces the amount of food consumed by creating a feeling of fullness much more quickly with smaller portions.
The surgery is performed laparoscopically (also known as keyhole surgery). This means smaller incisions, minimal tissue trauma, and relatively fast and smooth recovery after surgery.
Advantages:
• 5 years after surgery, the average weight loss is about 50-70% of excess weight.
• Type II diabetes remission in 75-85% of cases.
• Remission of reflux disease.
• Low risk of severe complications associated with the surgery.
• Future restoration of original anatomy is possible.
Disadvantages:
• Risk of vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
• Risk of dumping syndrome.
The surgical package includes the following services:
• Surgeon’s consultation
• Diagnostic procedures and analyses
• Preoperative consultation with a bariatric nurse
• Surgery
• Inpatient care in a private room for 2 nights
• Postoperative consultation with the surgeon
• Follow-up visits with a bariatric nurse at 2, 6, and 12 months after surgery
• Comprehensive information materials and dietary guidelines.
Additional services based on current price list:
• Bariatric nurse visit (outside package)
• Personal training
• Psychologist consultation
• Nutrition therapy counseling.
To ensure long-term success of bariatric surgeries, it is essential to significantly change lifestyle habits, improve nutrition, and increase physical activity in daily routines. This is the only way to prevent weight regain.
