X- ray
NB! X-ray examination is performed only with a referral note.
Confido radiology department does not accept referrals issued more than 6 months before the examination
X-ray examination is a widely used primary diagnostic method, in which an X-ray image is obtained using X-radiation. Since this involves ionizing radiation, a referral is required, which can be issued by a doctor or other healthcare specialist.
X-rays are mainly performed on the musculoskeletal system (joints and bones) to assess possible bone trauma, healing progress, or joint degeneration. Chest X-rays are also frequently carried out to evaluate the lungs for possible inflammatory or other pathological changes.
The X-ray images and their reports are stored in national Medical Image Bank and the examination results are saved in the Health Portal. If necessary, the performed studies can be provided on a USB storage device or transferred via a cloud service (for an additional fee).
X-ray procedure
X-ray examination does not require any special preparation; however, clothing, jewelry, glasses, and other items must be removed from the area being examined. Please wear clothing that is easy to remove.
The examination is conducted by a radiographer. The procedure is quick and generally does not cause discomfort. During the imaging, it is important to remain still for a moment.
Attention! Acute sinusitis does not require imaging but treatment. If acute sinusitis is suspected, X-ray examination of the paranasal sinuses/head area will not be performed.
Important information
- A small amount of ionising radiation is passed through the body. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
- Children are more sensitive to ionizing radiation, so a lower-intensity X-ray setting is used when performing examinations for them.
- For children and other patients in need of assistance, 1-2 accompanists are required (at least 18 years old and not pregnant). The child must be cooperative and able to follow given instructions.
- We also perform radiographs for measuring extremity axis or full-length spine (e.g. for scoliosis assessment).
- Please note that we do not perform fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray imaging).
- Examination results will be communicated to you by your family doctor or other healthcare specialist.
NB! X-ray examinations are carried out on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance booking is not available. Priority is given to urgent cases and children.
