I graduated from the Department of Medicine of the University of Tartu in 1978 and completed my surgical internship at Maarjamõisa Hospital in 1979. Since then, I have worked as a general surgeon in the Department of Abdominal Surgery. I completed my doctoral studies at the University of Tartu and received my doctoral degree in 2003. In addition to my work as a surgeon, I have worked for many years as a lecturer (associate professor, currently a visiting lecturer) at the Surgery Clinic of the University of Tartu. I have been involved in gastrointestinal surgery and endoscopy (gastro- and colonoscopy). Since 2008, I have been more dedicated to proctology: developing this specialty in the clinic as well as training colleagues (family doctors, gastroenterologists, general surgeons). I have improved my knowledge and skills in hospitals in Finland and Switzerland and at international training courses in Germany, the USA, Hungary, etc.
