Nipple reconstruction using autologous tissue
Look for appointment timesNipple reconstruction using autologous tissue is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring the shape and appearance of the nipple using the patient’s own tissue. Reconstruction may be necessary if the nipple is partially or completely absent or has significantly changed in shape due to previous surgery, trauma, or another cause.
During the surgery, the nipple is reconstructed using the patient’s own tissue. In most cases, skin and subcutaneous tissue from the breast area are used to create a new nipple. Depending on the patient’s anatomy, previous surgeries, and the condition of the tissues, other reconstructive techniques may also be used. The most suitable method is selected individually based on the available tissue and the desired outcome.
The aim of nipple reconstruction is to achieve as natural a shape, position, and proportion as possible and, where possible, good symmetry. If necessary, reconstruction or correction of the areola may also be performed at a later stage, for example with medical tattooing.
Depending on the extent of the procedure, the surgery may be performed under local or general anaesthesia. The recovery period depends on the surgical technique used and the patient’s individual healing process. During recovery, the surgical area should be protected from pressure and friction, and the surgeon’s instructions regarding wound care and physical activity should be followed.
Before undergoing nipple reconstruction, it is important to consult an experienced surgeon, who will assess the condition of the tissues, previous treatments and surgeries, and the patient’s expectations, and select the most suitable reconstruction method.
