• During a transrectal ultrasound examination of the prostate, a special ultrasound probe is inserted into the rectum. Lubricating gel is used when inserting the probe, and the procedure is generally not painful.
• During the examination, it is important to lie still and remain relaxed.
• Before the examination, it is important to empty the bowels in the morning. You may usually eat and drink as normal.
