Dr. Toomas Marandi graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu in 1993, completed his doctoral studies in 1999, completed his cardiology residency in 2002, and his clinical pharmacology residency in 2002. Since 2002, Dr. Marandi has been working at the North Estonia Regional Hospital and since 2013 at the Heart Clinic of the Institute of Clinical Medicine of the University of Tartu. Dr. Marandi has been an active member of the Estonian Society of Cardiology since 2001, the national guideline coordinator at the European Society of Cardiology since 2008, the President of the Society from 2009-2011, and the head of the working group on acute coronary syndromes since 2011. His special interest is the management of myocardial infarction patients from the onset of illness to the post-hospital period in smooth cooperation between different specialties, as well as the implementation of pharmacotherapy of cardiovascular diseases and modern e-solutions into daily practice to achieve the best treatment results, for research and to ensure compliance with quality standards. In 2024-2025, he was a team leader and project manager in the Health Insurance Fund’s treatment journey accelerator program in the project “Post-hospital treatment journey of a myocardial infarction patient”. The results of the work were presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Madrid in the fall of 2025 and are today the basis for the treatment of patients in Estonia at the national level.
