Acne treatment consultation
Look for appointment timesAcne is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can affect both adolescents and adults. Treatment depends on the type and severity of acne, the condition of the skin, and previous treatments. Appropriate treatment helps reduce active acne and the risk of developing post-acne scarring and skin discolouration.
An acne treatment consultation is suitable for you if you have persistent clogged pores (comedones), pimples or inflammatory acne lesions, and previous treatment has not provided the desired results, or you are unsure where to start.
During the consultation, the doctor assesses the type and severity of acne, the condition of your skin, previous treatments, and the skincare products you use. The doctor also evaluates the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation changes and scarring, as well as any existing skin changes, to select appropriate treatment and help prevent long-term skin changes. If necessary, the doctor will determine whether additional tests or a consultation with a dermatologist are required.
Based on the assessment, the doctor develops an individual treatment plan and provides guidance on using prescribed medications and daily skincare.
During the consultation, you will discuss:
- which acne treatment is suitable for you and how to use medications correctly;
- how to adjust your daily skincare routine to support treatment;
- how to prevent and relieve skin dryness, redness or irritation that may occur during treatment;
- whether any additional procedures could support your treatment;
- when to attend a follow-up appointment.
If possible, please bring your current skincare products or photos of their packaging to the appointment so that the doctor can assess their suitability alongside the prescribed treatment.
In cases of more severe acne, rapidly developing scars or an inadequate response to previous treatment, a dermatologist may need to be involved. In such cases, the general practitioner will help coordinate further treatment by consulting a dermatologist or referring you for a specialist appointment if necessary.
In certain cases, cosmetic procedures may be used alongside medical treatment to support skin health. However, these procedures do not replace the primary treatment of active acne, and their suitability must be assessed individually, as overly intensive or inappropriate procedures may irritate the skin and worsen inflammation.
Acne treatment requires consistency, and it may take several weeks before the first results become visible. Treatment effectiveness and skin condition are assessed at follow-up appointments, and the treatment plan is adjusted if necessary.
The consultation is conducted by a general practitioner with extensive experience in aesthetic medicine. This expertise allows the doctor to assess not only acne but also the overall condition of the skin, post-acne changes, and the potential need for supportive skin procedures, while always prioritising the medical treatment of acne.
