Cryptorchidism, or undescended testicle, is a condition in which one or both testicles have not descended through the inguinal canal into the scrotum. Cryptorchidism can cause infertility and increase the risk of testicular cancer.

Surgery may be necessary to bring the testicle into the scrotum in cases of cryptorchidism. The procedure usually involves manually placing the testicle into the scrotum and then fixing it in place to prevent retraction.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, either through an open or laparoscopic method. In most cases, patients can go home the same day. Recovery may take a few weeks, during which patients should avoid strenuous physical activity and follow their doctor’s instructions for wound care.

It is important to perform the surgery early in cases of cryptorchidism because delayed treatment can increase the risk of infertility and testicular cancer. Therefore, all boys should undergo regular health check-ups to ensure early detection and treatment when necessary.
