Sleep & snoring

Studying your sleep may reveal first clues to serious diseases such as arrhythmia, hypertension and sleep apnea. Sleep analysis helps to diagnose breathing difficulties during sleeping and assess their causal connections and severity with other accompanying diseases such as overweight, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

We recommend that those applicants of driver’s licence who have symptoms of sleep apnea syndrome would undergo a sleep analysis test.

Important to know

  • We perform the sleep analysis and pulmonary function test here at Confido Clinic.
  • These tests would not have affect on your daily activities and eating habits.
  • It is prohibited to use bronchial relaxation medicine or smoke prior to the pulmonary function test.

Sleep analysis

To explicate the causes of sleep disorders, a sleep analysis is conducted in home environment. The examination involves attaching a device to the body and monitoring for six hours the vital signs of the body which help to diagnose the sleep disorder. The vital signs monitored are:

  • heart activity, pulse
  • thorax respiratory effort, nasal cannula flow
  • oxyhaemoglobin saturation
  • existence and severity of snoring
  • changing of sleeping body positions (on the back, belly, left or the right side)

In addition to the price of the examination, a consultation fee of 70 euros is added.

Price of the examination 55 €
Duration of the examination 6 hours

How is the examination performed?

  • The sleep nurse teaches how to use the sleep analysis device at home.
  • The device with special sensors is placed on to the body.
  • The examination is painless and quiet. The device does not vibrate nor disturb sleep.
  • You have to return the device to the sleep nurse on the next day.
  • Then the data will be analysed, interpreted and summarised.
  • The examination is followed by a consultation with the sleep doctor.

We recommend the examination in case of the following symptoms of sleep apnea:

  • loud snoring
  • tiredness or sleepiness during day time
  • existence of pauses in breathing during sleep
  • body mass index (BMI) is over 35 kg/m²
  • the circumference of the neck is greater than 43 cm for men and 40 cm for women
  • the family doctor has identified a face anomaly, i.e. the the mandible is more back than the maxilla

How is the examination performed?

  • The nose is closed and breathing is done through a mouthpiece
  • At first, breathing is done effortlessly through the mouth, then as much air is inhaled as possible.
  • If the lungs are full, air is exhaled with force for the minimum of 6 seconds until the lungs are completely empty. The crucial moment here is the abrupt start of the exhaling.
  • During the bronchodilation test, you will be asked to inhale medicine that relaxes your bronchi. After 15 minutes a new spirographic examination is performed.

Pulmonary function test or spirography

Spirography (SPG) helps to assess the capacity of lungs and the permeability of airways during forced breathing. Spirometry is usually performed in order to diagnose and monitor treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

The examination measures the maximum depth and speed of exhalation and inhalation.

Prior to spirography, you can not:

  • use short-term bronchial relaxation medicine 6 hours before the examination
  • use long-term bronchial relaxation medicine 12 hours before the examination
  • smoke
Price of the examination 20-45 €
Duration of the examination 20-30 minutes
