Methods of coronavirus testing

How to get tested?

  • When coming to an appointment for testing, wearing a mask is mandatory.
  • First, determine for what purpose the test needs to be performed. For travel, we recommend the antigen test, which is collected from the nasopharynx and shows results in up to 30 minutes. You can find a comparison of testing methods HERE.
  • Bring your ID with you to the appointment.
  • Please provide a correct personal e-mail address on your contact form. Please do not use e-mail services that have been closed (e.g. a @hot.ee address).

    How does it work?

The coronavirus PCR test is a test detecting viral RNA, the positive result of which confirms that you are infected with the coronavirus.

    What does it show?

Whether you are infected with the coronavirus and potentially infectious to others.

    Why do it?

For the purpose of traveling or attending an event to prove you’re not contagious to others.

    How is the sample collected?

Patients are given 10 ml of saline (sodium chloride) to be gargled for provision of a sample. A healthcare official will pull some of the gargle liquid into a special vacuum tube and send it to a lab for testing (using the same method as with nasopharynx swabs).

PLEASE NOTE! You are not allowed to eat, drink, smoke, chew gum or brush your teeth for one hour before providing the sample. If you are getting children tested, make sure they practice gargling at home beforehand.

How long does it take to get the result?

The results will appear in the patient portal (Digilugu) within 48 hours after testing. We will send the result by e-mail with a link for those who have asked for a certificate.

    Is it suitable for travelling?

Yes, it is suitable as a travel document or to attend an event, but only if a certificate has been ordered with the test (extra charge).

Where can I do the test?

We currently only perform this test at Töökoja 1, Tallinn. You can only come to test by booking an appointment in advance.

    Attention!

    • Wearing a mask is mandatory when taking a coronavirus test!
    • Travelers to Russia must bring their passport for testing. Driver’s license is not suitable!
